PSS Bonamoussadi, Douala, Cameroon

Students at PSS Bonamoussadi in Douala have been looking at the process of infiltration by which rainwater passes into the ground, and thinking about the concept of permeability.

Schoolchildren conduct an experiment to learn more about infiltration of rainwater into the ground.

Students collected gravel, sand and soil and prepared an experiment to measure how fast water seeped into and flowed through each material. Water flowed at different rates through the different materials, and would not even enter the soil, which was very full of clay. This showed that the soil that was used was almost impermeable, whereas the other materials were more permeable.
