About the Partnership

The Water Learning Partnership is a collective effort by water researchers and educators to help secondary schools in sub Saharan Africa make the most of water as a learning topic. The initiative originated in Kwale County, Kenya where a multi-disciplinary groundwater research team came together with teachers, students and local industry partners to run weekly school water clubs.

The clubs tested out learning activities, went on local water-themed field trips, and conducted their own water research projects, which they presented at a workshop in Ukunda in 2018. The wide range of learning activities were collected into the Water Module, designed as a two-term course for secondary school environment clubs.

The Water Module Educator Guide describes how the resource can also be used as a “dippable resource” for classroom science, geography, personal, social and health education. [All the resources are published under a Creative Commons License to allow adaptation by educators and can be found here.]

In 2020, the Water Learning Partnership welcomed ISTP – an education training provider working in Cameroon – to the team. With their focus on learner-oriented and child-centered teaching/learning strategies, ISTP brought new insights to a second edition of the Water Module, now also adapted for wider relevance and usability. This website has been developed to showcase learning based on the resource.
